Instead, I came down with strep throat. Fun, huh?
Ethan's strep test was positive on Thursday evening. So both he and Aidan stayed home on Friday (Aidan just as a precaution, because he had a runny nose and said his throat hurt. Luckily, he hasn't caught it...yet.) Friday afternoon I started feeling a little funny. Saturday too - just a little funny. But that night I was pretty miserable. Sunday I woke up and decided I felt "okay enough" to go to church (because I had numerous church responsibilities and practically everyone else was out of town - I don't think I could have found substitutes if I wanted to). Sunday night was miserable too. So Monday morning I was excited to call either my doctor's office or Instacare to get an appointment for a strep test.
Did you know that in small towns like this one, not only are the doctor's offices closed, but Instacare is also closed on holidays? And that basically my only option was to go to the ER, pay $150 deductible plus 20% for them to give me a $5.00 prescription for amoxicillin? FRUSTRATING!
But then I had a good idea. I called Labor & Delivery (since they are always open, thankfully), explained my situation, and they paged my doctor. And bless her heart, she called me in a prescription. No doctor's office visit, no copay. I guess that's a positive thing for living in a small(ish) town. (Don't worry; she asked me numerous questions before giving me the prescription. I don't have mastitis or a UTI, in case you were wondering.)
So I spent yesterday sleeping while Christian took care of the whole family, me included. He rocks, and I love him.
I didn't even turn on my computer for two days. That's how sick I was. My Google reader is over 500. I'm starting to feel like I'm not even a blogger; I'm just a person who blogs on occasion. Now that is saying a lot.
The kids are off to school this morning. And I'm off to shower, and hope that I start feeling better soon. Hey, at least I'm not contagious anymore. Three cheers for antibiotics!

I'm glad that you didn't have to pay so much for a visit. Our pediatricion is pretty cool like that and if one of our kids gets it will call in for the rest of the fam if any of us get it. Feel better soon Erin!
I hope you feel better my cute friend!
And Cedar City is a college town. What are all the students supposed to do when they get sick?
BLECH!! I'm so sorry! I got strep when Luke was 8 days old last year (over the weekend, when no one was open, of course). Now THAT was no fun.
I'm so glad you thought to call labor & delivery and didn't have to pay out the nose for an ER visit. That was smart thinking! I am so lucky to have Mark. He has made house calls to several people in the ward before, so give him a call next time!
So smart that you thought to call labor and delivery. I will have to remember that.
I'm glad you could figure out the meds situation without too much trouble. I'm sick with allergies right now. And I got them at Cedar City. SIGH.
Allergies bite. But I will continue to visit Cedar cause I've got family there.
Get better my friend!
I hope you feel better soon, too!
Oh, and I've been a not-even-a-blogger-just-someone-who-blogs-on-occasion gal for a while now. It's oddly liberating.
Sorry :(. Hope you get better soon. That is awesome that your Dr was able to call that in for you.
Bah! I hate strep, I'm sorry you have it. I hope you feel better very soon!
Hope you feel better soon! But I kind of think strep would be better than going to a county fair...so maybe it wasn't all bad? :)
Oh man. I hope you feel better very soon! And thank goodness for your doctor!
Well played on finding a loop hole! Sorry that your holiday sucked though. I hope you feel better soon :)
Man! Being sick is NO fun! I hope you are feeling better! Thank goodness for good hubbys, eh?
Oh Erin...sorry you're sick!! Sounds like you are on the upswing though... take care of yourself!! :)
I hate it when a germ passes from one family member to the next. It's like slow-motion torture and you know you're going down any minute. Get well soon!
And, for what it's worth, *I* think you're a blogger. :)
Oh no!!!!!!!!!! Not strep!! How sad! And that's the same here, on the weekends we have to drive to the ER if we NEED something. It's a pain to go to the ER for an ear infection---give me a break. We don't even have instacare! Blah! Hope you guys are better!
That stinks there are no options on holidays (besides crazy expensive ERs). Way to go on calling the doctor. Thats one thing I miss about having babies is I felt like I had contact with a doctor more often, in case of things like this.
I hope by now it's at least starting to feel manageable.
Glad you're on the mend!
I'm so far behind on blogging that I don't feel like a blogger anymore either. And I've been doing this for 4 years - oi!
Hope you feel better soonly!
I hate strep. Hope you feel better soon Erin!
Oh no...hope you're feeling better by now!
Erin - Got your sweet comment on my blog. Yes I think we could be friends! Hope you are feeling better by now. I will have to check back and "get to know you" better :)
