1000 Sheep for Ewe

I needed to run to Wal-Mart this morning to purchase Halloween candy, so I took the back road like I always do. I didn't realize I would be stopped by sheep on the drive. (This isn't a usual occurrence, believe me. My town has close to 30,000 people. This is a picture taken with my cheap cell phone.)
Then I remembered that this weekend is the Livestock and Heritage Festival. Our town uses any excuse to hold a parade (we are nicknamed Festival City, USA), and this weekend is no exception. The flier says, "This event is an exciting celebration of the agricultural industry's contribution to our community. Watch one of the most unique parades in the county, where approximately 1,000 sheep are herded down Main Street along with horses, wagons, antique tractors, and historic sheep wagons." It was definitely a must-see event.

However, when I told the pharmacist at Walgreens that I was so excited to drive through a herd of sheep, he told me he grew up farming sheep and they were just an annoyance for him. I thought it was cool. I even had to call Christian when my car was completely surrounded and tell him I wish the entire family was in the car.

Want to see a thousand sheep be herded down Main Street?

We got stuck between a cattle drive once, in a small canyon. It was a nightmare. This looks more contained.

LOVE. I swear I don't think they did that when I went to school there. When we went through Manti to Capitol Reef a couple years ago we got stuck in a couple sheep jams, but I don't think they were that big. I was super excited.

It's mostly deer, moose, and bears up here. Sheep would be a nice change. How neat!

That would have been cool to go see if it weren't the SAME weekend as Halloween! There were so many other events going on! Gotta love Cedar.

I;m not sure what to say...... I do know that I am pretty sure that my friend;s husband would have been one of the ranchers herding the sheep.

So, um, exciting!

I remember driving down south for a funeral. Ty was driving and I was a passenger. I fell asleep and when I woke up the car was surrounded by sheep. It was very surreal.

I always hated getting stuck behind a herd of sheep. They move so slowly, and every time I did, I was in a hurry. Not so fun.
I want to live in your city! I love festivals. But seeing sheep herded down main street just might change my mind from agreeing with your pharmacists.

I never actually put two and two together, but I bet every time we got stuck in the sheep herds was whatever this week is. You are too smart.

Although, there are an awful lot of sheep farms out by where we lived. :)

That would take some talented folks to herd that many...

That is pretty funny. Though I once was caught in a sheep herd too, when I lived in Durango and I must admit I was excited too :)
