A Snowy Zion National Park

We live an hour away from Zion National Park (well, depending on who is doing the driving. But that's another blog post.). Since Zion is in southern Utah, it usually has very mild temperatures in the winter, and it rarely snows (and sticks). But we had a huge storm blow through the week after Christmas, and so we took the opportunity to visit Zion N.P. on New Year's Eve. It was so fascinating seeing the snow-covered splendor and beauty of the area.

Approaching the park
The clouds were SO amazing.
Notice how this picture is focused? That's because Christian took it.
I'm still a crappy picture taker.
Awww, look at that little tongue.
I love this picture, even though I'm shooting straight into the sun.
Snow at Zion N.P. is rare. (Annette, I typed "very rare," and then deleted the "very" just for you. Hee hee.)
Ever seen a cactus with snow on it?
See that "little" hole in the mountain? We will be driving through it in just a minute.
Looking out of the hole while in the tunnel. It was built in the 1920s and is 1.1 mile long. How did they blast through the mountain in the 20s? Amazing.
What you see when you exit the tunnel.
We love living here because of all of the amazing outdoor wonders. Does anyone want to come and visit us now?

Gorgeous photos!! We've been meaning to go for the longest time. We used to get a year pass and go about once a month. I hate to admit that it's been over a year since we were last there (Luke was only 3 weeks old).

PS. Lower Emerald Pools is a great stroller hike, even in the winter!

Aaahhh. Love it.
As a kid, I went to Zion Nat'l Park every year. As an adult, not so much. I miss it. Thanks for the Zion fix.

What an awesome way to spend New Years! We were there in Oct. and the weather was just perfect. Makes me want to try it again in the winter!

We were there for the day in early spring & I thought to myself, "I'd love to see what it looks like covered in snow". It's beautiful! I bet it was amazing to see in person.

I haven't been to Zion in 15+ years. (Must rectify this.)

Love that I'm whispering in your heard as your write posts. :) (Should I apologize?)

Oh! I love it! I'll be right over!! Those are such lovely shots. And what a DARLING little baby and tongue you have there (I'm referring to the baby's tongue, though I'm sure yours is lovely too).

The view through that hole is awesome! Thank you for sharing this!

Those are very cool pictures. I think they one pointing right into the sun is great. The sun actually adds to it. I don't think I have ever seen pictures of the desert covered in snow. I have also never been to any of the national parks in southern Utah that I can think of.

I am agin (and yes, I did write "agin") it due to our most recent snow experience, though I have to say, even 12 hours spent in the car looking at it was really very glorious. Love your pics. I also love the word very. So there.

I *really* want to visit the parks! I love the outdoors, especially now that I'm trying to be a "photographer." But I could never convince Brit to make that drive with me.

Oh, how beautiful Zion is covered in snow! I will relent to the fact that snow is always quite pretty, even though I am not in love with it.

I miss Zion, too.
