Proof That I'm Doing My Job Well

Every night, we sit down together as a family to eat dinner and talk about our day (our kids are young enough that we are still able to do this). Here is a conversation between Ethan (2nd grade) and Aidan (kindergarten) (printed with permission from the sensitive almost-8-year-old):

Ethan: You know what has really been driving me crazy at school lately?

Aidan: All the beautiful girls? (!!!!!!! Christian and I busted up laughing. We couldn't help it.)

Ethan (after the laughing calmed down): No, Justin Bieber.

Aidan: Justin Bieber? Why?

Ethan: Because all of the girls are wearing Justin Bieber shirts. They talk about him all the time. And Lady Gaga too. They wear her shirts too.

Aidan: Oh, yeah. Lady Gaga too.

Ethan: Yep, they just drive me crazy.

I love getting snippets into my kids' lives at school. This conversation happened Saturday night at dinner. Then Sunday, I was at church with the kids (Christian was still miserable because of the strep throat). Kaitlyn was antsy, so I gave her a mini notebook to flip through. It flipped open to a page, I saw what was on the page, and burst out laughing. Out loud. During the opening hymn.

This is what was on the page:I have officially succeeded as a mother.

This is great--LOVE the conversations!!! And I always feel that way also, and tell my kids that if they don't like me sometimes, that means maybe I'm doing my job:).

Awesome!
And I assume that you weren't even trying to drive him crazy.

Scott and I just laughed out loud.
We are always making Sydney (4) so "fustrated."

"All the beautiful girls?" That is hilarious! And so funny that you found that in your notebook. I wonder if he left it for you on purpose. :) Kids are the best, even if they don't mean to be.

Oh my gosh! How funny. When my brother was about the same age as Ethan, he used to write letters to people when he was mad at them and instead of signing them "Love, Jonah" he would sign them "Hate, Jonah."

Don't you just love it? I think kids are hilarious! We were leaving church a couple of weeks ago and my 5 year old screamed "I hate you" to me in front of this cute old couple, they turned around and smiled at me and said that they had been there.

Bwahahahah! Love it!

When I was nine I wrote a passionate essay for class entitled Why I Hate My Mother.

She has never let me forget it either...

Reminds me of the time my eldest made a list of things that annoy me. I wonder if she was making that list for future reference...

So funny! It's good he is so open with his feelings!

Justin Beiber drives me crazy too. My daughter is 7, doesn't really know who he is, but, apparently, thinks he's amazing!

I have one daughter who loves Justin Bieber and one who can't stand him. He does make interesting conversations amongst my girls. I would say that you really are a real mother now! Don't our kids know that we sit up at nighttime to plan out the next day and how we'll drive them crazy? Good times.
