Christmas Decorations - Redneck Style

Just kidding about the redneck thing.  Mostly.  But MMB is doing a holiday home tour, and I just had to participate so I could show off my awesome decorating skillz.  (Who in the back is choking on their cocoa because I said my skillz are awesome?  .....yeah, okay.  You're right.)

Here's our Christmas tree.  Christian took the boys to choose it this year.  Ethan desperately wanted the Charlie Brown Christmas tree on the left, and Aidan wouldn't budge because he wanted the Charlie Brown Christmas tree on the right.  Luckily, Christian talked both of them into choosing the slightly less Charlie Brownish Christmas tree in the middle.  Who is taller?  (See my plaid pajama pants?  That is my first contribution to the redneck society.)

Next, you see the pile of knitted material folded on top of the present to the right of the tree?  Those are our stockings. (My second contribution to the redneck society...) I haven't had the energy or desire to find somewhere to hang them, so there they rest until Christmas Eve when Santa fills them to the brim.  This is a photo of them taken last year.

After 12 years of marriage, I finally got a Nativity set!  Yay me!  And the W next to it was a gift from one of my dear friends in Orem.  I think of her every year when I pull it out of the Christmas box (give me a craft as a gift, and I will think of you every time I see it.)

Right after I graduated from high school 15 years ago, I spent a month in Paris, France. Shortly after coming back I got a job at an Ace Hardware that had a housewares section.  That Christmas they sold these cute villages that light up.  One of them was a cathedral that looks a lot like the Notre Dame in Paris.  I was so excited I purchased it right away, and it is now one of my favorite Christmas decorations.

Christian's mom found this fishing Santa for him. (Redneck society contribution #3.) It's just hilarious, and it has a prominent place in our home on the kitchen table, which is actually in the living room (#4 reason why I'm a redneck.) Christian has already been ice fishing twice in the last two weeks, and he will be going out many more times over the holiday break.  (He will be taking the kids, while I relax in the warm house.)

And maybe one of my favorite parts of Christmas - making treats.  I look forward to having Ethan home from school, and Christian home from work, and making treats as a family and just spending time together.  This year, I will be making cheese balls, cake balls, cherry chocolate squares, and caramel (if I get brave enough to attempt it).  Yummy!!

So those are my Christmas decorations.  If you want to play, click the link at the top of my left sidebar to find out how!

I love that you are about 6 feet taller than the tree!

Oh-those cherry bars look/sound yummy! And I love your nativity. That type of figurine is one of my favorites.

I can't imagine having a tree that I'm taller than! Ours our usually seven foot ones and they definitely tower over me:)

Love that you decided to do this post, it's fun to see what other people do around the holidays that make it special.

Wait, plaid pajama pants are redneck now?? Dang it, I thought they were still cool.
Love the nativity set, I need a tall one like that.

I love your tree. Mine goes up to my waist, but it was free from my in laws, so it works. I cannot wait to get all the treats made! And the gnome/dwarf guy is so awesome! I love it! What fun Christmas decor you have!

Your tree cracks me up! But I love it! I love that your kids wanted a Charlie Brown tree.

Love the nativity. I have that one, too. It's my favorite, I think.

Cute tree! Even if you are taller!

And I want some of your cake balls, that sounds yummy!
Will you bring me some when we go to lunch?

Very cute!!!

SO, I was about to say "Hey, we have the same nativity set", but then I noticed: "Hey, why didn't my set come with more people?" We only have Joseph, Mary, some animals and a shepherd.

You're more decorated than we are. But I prefer it that way. I like really minimal decor in my own house, but I enjoy the fun stuff in other peoples'. So party on with your redneck self.
Oh, and I really like the Notre Dame thingy. So cool!

My hubby loves to fish too. So, we have quite the collection of fishing related ornaments. It's pretty funny. Love your decorations.

Fun! I'm may/may not have redneck roots myself! LOL! I did the home tour too and was so worried my stuff would look so plain with all the fabulousness out there. Instead, I just get to feel 'normal'. Sigh. It's great to be among the nominal achievers! I can't even find all of our stockings!

I need to do a photo tour like this one, if only to show that I'm not exaggerating about what a mess this place is. =P The tree that was 100% decorated by our 3 and 5 year old NEEDS to be documented though...

You say redneck, I say good old-fashioned ingenuity! :)

Have fun with the cake balls - they're delish.

You are so not a redneck:) I grew up in the south and your decorations are awesome! I love things that people make for me too. They always go front and center on the tree.

Hey at least your kids can help you decorate the entire tree ;)

Great post

I think that we all must have a little bit of "redneck" in us! Love the Christmas tree.

My mom just took out our nativity scene.
We're actually getting a "charlie brown" christmas tree. We have a tiny house... so we can't fit a big tree in it at all.
But we're going back to a real tree this year. :)
I love your stockings. I have one like them.

We don't have a great place to hang our stockings so alas they sit like yours. Then when Santa fills them they sit onthe couch anyhow. :)

We do a nice tree and nutcrackers. I don't even have a nativity set. I am so Christmas impaired!

Your place looks great!

And now I'm craving caramel...
We don't have a mantle so I use window ledge. Kinda works but I'd rather have a better solution so let me know what you decide to do!
